Arts At The Arms is a performing arts organisation based in Yorkshire, dedicated to supporting local creatives in sharing their practice. Their goal is to showcase original work and developing talent from across the region in a relaxed setting.

Founders Chris and James invited me to capture the magic of one of their events at the iconic Leeds Playhouse. Alongside filming the individual performances, my task was to create an engaging ‘About’ video, designed to highlight the passion and creativity driving the initiative.

Approach

With this being a relatively last-minute project, I had to think on my feet and get creative with both the filming style and overall approach. Time was tight, so I opted for a run-and-gun style that kept things fluid and dynamic. Except from a static camera to capture the performances, I shot everything else handheld to capture the energy of the event but also to give the the video an organic feel.

I filmed interviews with the key people involved – Chris, James, and Lily. These interviews formed the core narrative of the film, providing personal insights into the passion and commitment behind the organisation. The combination of b-roll and storytelling brought the whole project to life.

Project Outcome

The final video brought together the energy of the performances and the ethos of the organisation, giving a genuine snapshot of what they do best – championing fresh talent in a setting that feels authentic and accessible. It was a great opportunity to not only showcase the event but also tell the story behind Arts At The Arms and what makes it such a special part of the local arts scene.
